Earlier this year Tower Lifts won the contract to install two passenger lifts in a fascinating historic building in London’s East End. The Poplar Bath House was constructed in 1852 for the princely sum of £10,000 and was intended to provide bathing facilities for the local population. Since then it has been a boxing ring, cinema and theatre before finally closing its doors in 1988.
Currently it is being transformed into a leisure centre and housing complex incorporating a swimming pool and gym. In addition to the passenger lift installation, Tower Lifts has also installed a platform lift offering enhanced access to the full range of leisure activities.

Poplar Baths is a Grade II listed building which means that there are strict guidelines as to the range of structural alterations that can take place. The two passenger lifts installed by the Tower Lifts team required a pitless solution as the building had insufficient space for a lift shaft. Our platform lift solutions enhance access for visitors or staff with visual or physical disabilities. The platform lift is large enough to take a wheelchair, can be designed to accommodate standard or curved stairways, and provides an elegant and efficient alternative to stairs or steps in historic buildings.
