As the largest performing arts centre in Europe, the Barbican is a flagship provider of theatre, music, contemporary art and film for UK audiences. They require an integrated/hidden platform lift to be installed in the Barbican Art Gallery, and Tower Lifts is delighted to have been asked to work on this project.

Integrated Hidden Platform Installation

The lift we will be installing is the TLP1000 Wheelchair Lift. This lift provides an elegant solution for public buildings requiring vertical transport, but lacking the spatial requirements necessary to the installation of a standard lift. The lift mechanism is designed to carry wheelchair users up a short set of straight or curved stairs, up to a height of 1 metre, whilst remaining seated.

The lift is operated using integrated up and down buttons. Safety barriers self-erect once the lift is operational, and a platform provides a smooth journey between floors. When it is not in use, the lift mechanism drops into a pit at the bottom of the stairs, and seamlessly integrates with the surrounding floor. This lift is a popular choice in public spaces as it provides reliable access, whilst retaining existing floor-space.

The integrated nature of this particular lift installation requires that Tower Lift designers work closely with clients to provide a bespoke platform lift solution for them. The lift can be created to the size restrictions of the space and it can also be finished to ensure its complete integration with the existing floor covering, whether inside or out.
