Tower Lifts Provide a Dumb Waiter Installation for Waterford JD Sports Store

We are delighted to have won the contract for a lift install for JD Sports, Waterford. The ancient seaport of Waterford, in the southeast corner of Ireland has its roots in Viking history but the present-day town provides a hub for shoppers and just a stroll through the popular City Square will bring you face to face with the majority of the major High Street brands – including JD Sports. The JD brand which originated in Greater Manchester back in the early 1980s is currently the number one destination for trainers and sportswear in Ireland. In 2011 JD Sports toppled the Irish sports frontrunner Champion Sports for pride of place as the shoppers’ favourite and there are now 25 stores across Ireland with more planned.

Why a Dumb Waiter Installation for the Waterford Store?

Success brings its own challenges, and Tower Lifts was asked to provide a solution. Busy JD stores require the maximum customer-facing assistants on the shop floor to ensure that customers aren’t left hanging around waiting to be served. Many of those customers want to try on trainers, which means shop floor staff have to leave customers waiting whilst they retrieve the trainers from the stockroom. Our Tower Lifts lift design team love a challenge and we suggested a dumb waiter installation. This oddly named, Dumb waiter lift installation is designed to move goods from one floor, or location, to another in order to save staff running up and down stairs constantly. Now JD staff are able to maintain the connection with their customers, whilst a dumb waiter does the fetching and carrying.
