The Tower Lifts team recently completed work on the 150,000 square foot, Cat A refurbishment of The Amp (formerly London Metropolitan University) for Oktra, one of the UK’s leading office design and build companies.

Located at 41-71 Commercial Road, East London, the original building has undergone a stunning transformation inside and out and is now a stylish innovation hub housing a diverse academic community providing a blend of creativity, training, education, and commerce.

The redevelopment of the Met Building into The Amp required the installation of modern passenger and accessibility solutions within its existing structure. This included:

• Installing 6 passenger lifts with varying capacities (8-12 passengers) to accommodate increased foot traffic within the educational and commercial hub.
• Providing a dedicated firefighting lift to ensure swift emergency response.
• Catering to different floor configurations, with 4 lifts serving 7 floors and 2 lifts reaching 8 floors.
• Installing 2 additional disability platform lifts to comply with accessibility regulations and promote inclusivity within the building.

The Tower Lifts Solution

• Project. Working closely with Oktra, architects and engineers, Tower Lifts completed the installation of 8 lifts for the building.
• Lift Installation. Tower Lifts installed the 6 passenger lifts, including the firefighting lift, and the 2 disability platform lifts, ensuring an efficient operation and compliance with all safety regulations.
• Project Management. Tower Lifts played a key role in coordinating with Oktra and other subcontractors, ensuring timely completion and adherence to project specifications.
